B. While consumer reports should only remain "active" for no more than 30 days, reports should be kept for archival purposes for at least 5 years. The FCRA allows someone to file suit for the lesser of 2 years from the date that the person becomes aware of a violation or 5 years. To ensure a CRA has the report to defend itself in any litigation, we recommend keeping this information for at least 5 years from the date the report is run.
